About Forklift Tires Incorporated

In 1982, Mike Fogel started Forklift Tires of East Michigan in his garage. The United States was in the midst of an economic downturn but Mike knew if he could help customers by providing a good product, at a fair price, with knowledgeable and fast service, the customers would buy from him. Mike, in those days, sold tires in the morning and installed them in the afternoon.

It was not long before Mike added employees and another store and then another and another until he had five locations in Michigan, Indiana and Ohio. Along the way, Mike continued to be a hands-on owner. It was not unusual to see Mike out there with a press guy installing tires or looking at a unique vehicle that needed tires. Mike’s years of experience lead him to develop new ways to press tires and a new way to provide customers with swift professional on-site installation greatly reducing down-time for his customers. Thanks to the encouragement of Mike, the employees also designed and built new pieces of equipment that allowed the company to regularly change all four tires in less than one-half hour.

Changing times meant changing directions and Mike was beginning to notice that the trucks were getting faster while the tires were getting smaller resulting in shorter life for the same tire size. Mike embarked on a plan to make solid resilient forklift tires that were FULL SIZED. He wanted to build them to the original size dimensions of twenty years earlier. He rejected the new (SMALLER) Euro dimension tires other manufacturers were building at the time. He also designed far deeper treads into the tires giving them superior traction throughout the life of the tire. Far exceeding the one-third tread life other tire manufacturers were building. Today that tire is called the Nextire Deep Lug and it stands as the benchmark for what a forklift tire should be in traction and tread life. A few years later Mike did the same thing with skid steer ties and today that tire, the Clawdaddy, is the longest lived deepest lugged tire on the market.

Today, the family of Forklift Tire companies sells and installs tires all across the Americas. We continue to explore new ways to exceed customer’s industrial tire needs. If you have a need for exceptional performance in your industrial tires give us a call.
